An Update to Our Website!
Hey y'all! We love the community that is growing here. We’re continuously impressed with your work, and with that said we want to help you make the most of it.
Here’s what we’ve been thinking lately.
When posting online, it can be a bit hard to show people (link to) the rest of our world of art/creations. Oftentimes, as creatives, we are on several platforms, with different versions of our content on spotify vs youtube, etc.
We thought we’d make it a bit easier to gather all of that stuff in one place. Basically a page for your art that we hope you can be really happy and proud of, which is also platform agnostic.
Our philosophy is that it shouldn’t matter if you’re posting on reddit, youtube, spotify, tiktok, or a hundred other places — you should still be able to center things in one place.
For this reason, we’ve been working on a big overhaul to “Mixtapes.”
Back in the day (as many may know) mixtapes were a way to share music with people. But it was also a way to share a part of who we were. Like a window of sorts into our inner landscape. A way for people to see us, who we really are, through our artistic choices.
This weekend, you'll see some updates to how we post here on the website. Each time we post, we'll also post to one of our mixtapes. This post will appear in the feed, just like before—but the post now links into your own curated space, where people can explore more of your art.
We think of mixtapes as worlds you can build on over time, which has the ability to both play directly, as well as link to all of your content—and the content of other people.
Question: Umm, why don’t the socials already do this for their posts?
Socials don’t want to link their users out of their own ecosystems, because they depend on people to stay in their feeds and watch ads. That’s why the only way out is “link in bio.”
Luckily, we are not “socials” — and we have no reason to lock people into one ecosystem over the other. We believe the web should be free.
So with that being said, we’ve used some good old free time to build something free for all of us who post here. A space that lets you gather your art in a way that’s beautiful, lets people experience the art in the order you intended.
P.S. We’d love for you to try it and let us know what you think. What would make a mixtape the perfect thing to invite someone into your world? Thanks for being on this journey with us,
Mixtape

Music Videos - Sharing some Midjourney profiles!
Hi friends, just thought I'd share some prompts + profile details. Visual content is an amazing way to get people to engage with our music, so if you're interested, I highly recommend testing it out and having some fun with it!As of right now, I find Midjourney to be the best image and video generator. This might change, but for now, I am making all my videos with Midjourney. The profile I want to share today is particularly good for cinematic realism. If you want things to look real. Aliens, spaceships, demons, angels, you name it. It's the culmination of a lot of experimenting. To use this profile, add a space to the end of your Midjourney image prompt, followed by this:--p p7343415279197618211This will let you use the "Mixtape Realism Aesthetic" (Just made that up; there's probably a better name for it)Here are some images and prompt examples, and how they would look if you wanted to make something similar:
"terrifying huge guardian creature, armored, crusader, medieval chapel, high above the clouds, mist on the ground, zombie acolytes white robes, 90s VHS --p p7343415279197618211"
"aerial footage of a colossal ancient fortress palace world floating and stretching upwards far above the clouds, obsidian, arching bridges, gates of heaven, storm clouds, terrifying divine presence, cinematic lighting, 90s VHS --p p7343415279197618211"
"footage of ritual, model priestess inside a medieval mirror chamber, sacrifice, demonic dark elves, succubus, ancient coven, ritual, acolytes, gritty --p p7343415279197618211"
"footage of an alien creature covered in slime in a quarantine containment cell, behind glass, clear, reflections --p p7343415279197618211"
"footage of huge military spacecraft levitating over airbase --p p7343415279197618211"I'll keep sharing new profiles as I make them. Hope you'll have some fun exploring this!P.S. Soon, we are going to add a new feature that will make videos easier to share here on mixtape. I don't want to give up the surprise in advance, but trust me, you'll be the first to know about it! We really think (and hope) you'll like it.

Our Latest Update is Live!
Hey y'all! We've been busy lately, building a better version of mixtape. Now it's live!Besides a full glow-up, we've made Mixtape more robust, which is neat as we keep growing. Let's go over the update: What's new: - New UI, which makes navigation easier, and allows us to add new features without cluttering things up. - You can now submit your songs from Youtube, Suno & more, to the Mixtape Billboard. This also means you can add multiple links for your song, if it is on several platforms--letting you gather everything in one place. - New search bar for our forum, so you don't have to scroll forever to find that one post. - Improved profile page, where you can see your top tracks on the billboard, and much more. With this said, we're already busy improving on the update, and building on the next features. And we won't stop till it's perfect! We really want you all to feel like Mixtape can be a home to your AI artists. Where your best artistic expression can be collected in one place, so you can easily share it with the world to see. Ultimately, a place to present your artist in a way that is as good as the music itself. TLDR: We've been so impressed with the music submitted so far, and we want to give your music and artists the home they deserve! Thanks to our amazing dev @pikian for taking on this big overhaul, and hope you will all enjoy an improved Mixtape.

If you're reading this, you're right on time -- AI music is blowing up (Google stat)
So, until recently, the topic of AI music has still been relatively quiet, compared to many other things in the news-cycle. But we're starting to see AI music and AI artists being talked about quite rapidly these last weeks. Thought I'd chime in with some data: this is from google trends, and we can clearly see the recent spikes in searched, along with a stark uptick in the baseline just recently. (Graphs show last 12 months)
Y'all, this means: if you've already made an AI artist, you are already ahead. That's all I wanted to say! Hope this can serve as some inspo ;)Much love, Tempest

Why your AI music can be, already is, and will continue to be ART
For a long time, the quality of visual art was in large part measured by its resolution. The more realistic/detailed the painting, the greater the artist.
But then something happened.
The camera was invented.
For the arts, and painters, this was a big shake-up.
The reigning idea of “good art” was disrupted. People could suddenly have their image perfectly reproduced, and portrait painters were soon replaced by photographers.
Paul Delaroche (painter) famously said “Painting is dead” and all around, people freaked out.
Everything seemed to be over.
Except, as we know today, it wasn’t.
While everyone was busy freaking out…
Enter Picasso.
Picasso was basically a painter prodigy, who at 15 years of age had already painted motifs in pristine realism. I.e. he knew what he was doing.
Confronted by the technology of the camera, he realized:
He could do something the camera couldn’t. He could paint something from 10 angles or more at once. And by doing so, his painting could capture aspects and ideas of a subject that even the camera would miss.
He painted things that would soon become the new art "meta."
The point: the art of Picasso's painting wasn’t about the literal realism anymore. It was about abstraction. He had taken painting to an abstracted place.
This mode of abstraction was, famously, coined the “modernist” art movement. This kind of style, more specifically, “cubism.”
As such, the technology of the camera didn’t kill the art of painting, it shifted its place.
The camera also started a brand new tradition of photographic artmaking. An art form in its own right.
Which brings us to:
WHY YOUR AI GENERATED MUSIC CAN BE ART
Let’s use camera as a metaphor for AI music, and AI art in general.
When you are a photographer, you take photos that are a selection of the scenes you walk by.
Let’s say you take a photo of a beautiful building. You did not personally build that building; you simply saw it, recognized its beauty, framed it, and clicked a button.
The next step is neat: If the image output is beautiful enough, people will credit you for producing a piece of art. Even if you didn’t build the building!
Now, did you steal that building because you did that? Did you rip off the builders or the architect?
No, of course not.
Similarly, with AI, we can write our own lyrics and prompts. Then, out of all the generations we get, we select those with beauty. Like with a camera, we select what we like. Subsequently, if needed, we refine and edit the tracks till they are complete.
Just like the camera, we find beauty by the process of selection.
Ergo, it is reasonable to say this kind of output could also be considered a piece of art, if indeed a photograph also is.
Essentially:
With photography we rely on a good eye in the process of selection.
With AI music we rely on a good ear in the process of selection.
With this said, no metaphor is an exact comparison, and yet! The camera is an apt one, as others have previously also pointed out.
Anyways!
Who knows when AI generated art will be accepted as such. But until then, I hope you make some nice AI art

Excited to Share a New Feature with Y'all!
Hey friends! Since y'all began submitting your (excellent) tracks to our billboard, we've been busy building on some fun features.
Before we even get into what it is, let's explain why we made it.
One of the things we've noticed here at reddit is that a lot of people post songs, often really good ones, without getting engagement. And it's not because the community is not helpful--we've seen first hand how much people are willing to help each other. There are lots of really great community members across the AI music subs. So...
What if the issue is that there just isn't enough incentive to engage? That we just need a tiny little nudge, a sort of unofficial invite to chime in.
The feature we've added:
To build more engagement, we've added a simple xp system, available to everyone as of today. How it works:
-get xp by commenting & being helpful
-get xp by upvoting and getting upvoted
Once you have 10 xp, you can spend them and boost one of your tracks on the billboard!
Everyone can get xp, and there is no pay to play. This is intended to be a completely non-monetized, entirely community driven system--and we pledge to stand by this, as time goes on.
The 10 xp are intended to be pretty easy to get. Since you get xp for having your comments upvoted, it should be quite fast to rack em up by giving feedback, as well.
Anyways, not gonna drone on about it! It's much better if you test it out (hopefully we have squished the big bugs already, but if not, let us know and we'll get em asap!)
We hope you enjoy it--and stay tuned for upcoming updates & additions as we make the community a better place to learn, hang out, and get listened to.
Much love,
Mixtape

Post your songs for feedback & give feedback to others
Hey everyone! The "feedback" topic exists for anyone who wants to ask for feedback on their music. Feedback can be a range of things, so if you have a specific thing about your music you want feedback on, such as lyrics, sound quality--let us know. Otherwise, we'll do our best to give you our general feedback on the track! The easiest way is to share a link to the track you want feedback on. I will frequent the forum, and help as many as I can. But remember! The community will thrive if we all help each other. Let's foster a friendly atmosphere, where people feel comfortable sharing their work, and motivated to keep working on their craft :)Excited to see what you're all working on!

A simple trick to make lyrics less generic
Hey friends!
I just wanted to chime in with a simple trick. This is not a rule to live by or anything, just something I have found useful in my own writing career. Hopefully it can help if you are ever stuck in a rut!
If you feel like your lyrics sound generic -- which is another way of saying expected/unsurprising -- try flipping the song's sentiment on its head.
What is the sentiment? It's sort of the core meaning of the song. Let's just take these lyrics as an example:
"Show me something newDon't mind if you drive fasterYeah I can't stay away from youBut baby we'll be a disaster"
Not the strongest fourth line, but good enough for an example. Based on this text, we would think this song is about:
"Someone in a car with someone they like, worrying that their relationship is going to be a disaster"
Okay. That's a sentiment right there. But the thing is: it is sort of a generic one. Why? Because it is a very typical thing for someone to worry about relationship issues. There's nothing special about it, per se.
However, what if we changed the last line, so that instead the lyrics are:
"Show me something newDon't mind if you drive fasterYeah I can't stay away from youCause I love a disaster"
Suddenly, it feels different. Less generic. Why?
Because now the sentiment has been changed from being about someone worrying about their relationship to:
"Someone actively seeking a relationship because they want to watch it burn"
Ethically speaking, this might seem a bit messed up.
And yes, it is.
But narratively, it adds tension.
It takes out of the generic sentiment, what you'd first expect, and spices things up.
So when you're in a rut, try switching things up! Write something that seems strange or contradictory to your song's initial sentiment. See what happens!
P.S. I am by no means saying my example lyrics are of some golden standard. They're just an example from a song I made on Suno v.4.5. Here's the result. If you have recommendations of your own, I'd love to hear them in the comments, and I'm sure others would too!
