Building the Curating Economy
Executive Summary In a world of infinite AI-generated content, value converges around the scarcity of curation—the human signature of selection, context, and taste. The current internet infrastructure, fragmented between Walled Gardens (social media) Aggregation Models (Linktree), and streaming (Spotify) is structurally insufficient for supporting the needs of the modern creator, failing to provide meaningful validation, identity construction, and capture of value. Mixtape is the cross-platform Identity Protocol and Layer for the generative era. We are creating the curative (curation) technology required to enable creators to synthesize their multi-modal art, converge their fragmented audiences, and establish a persistent identity they own. Our strategy begins not by competing with the Attention Economy, but by providing the essential utility layer required to organize, synthesize, and monetize the creative process. Introduction Humanity is driven by an irreducible need to express the self—to construct an identity and project it into the world. Throughout history, the tools of creativity have evolved, but the fundamental impulse remains the same. We observe a recurring pattern in media technology: periods of massive proliferation and distribution necessitate new tools for curation and identity expression. The rise of MP3s and piracy shattered the album format, leading to the curated identity of the Myspace profile. The advent of streaming offered infinite access to music, leading to the playlist as a primary mode of self-expression and social signaling. We are now at the inflection point of the most significant proliferation event in human history. This time, it is not distribution that has been democratized, but creation itself. AI has ubiquitized the execution of art. The barriers to producing high-fidelity music and visuals have collapsed. This changes the nature of creativity. Before, creativity existed primarily in the ideating and executive layers. Now it exists mainly in the selective layer. This is a fundamental shift. In a world of infinite generation, the act of selection—the curation, the aesthetic choices, the contextualization—becomes the human signature. The economy of the future is not mainly creative; it is selective. This shift is the beginning of a new economic reality. When the execution of art is automated, the supply becomes near infinite. Over time, the value of individual outputs of MP3, MP4, and other standardized formats trend toward zero. In this environment, value migrates from the commoditized output to the scarcity of the human context surrounding them. The emergent value resides in the generative byproducts (prompts, style profiles, and workflows), the status attached to taste, and the act of curation itself. We define these byproducts as Generative Assets, and they form the basis of a new economy. Come the future, creators and fans alike will require new mechanisms to capture the value of their process, and to build persistent identity around their generative curations. As we will see, the current internet infrastructure is structurally incapable of properly supporting this curative, generative economy. Dominated by legacy socials, the internet is optimized for standardized formats of video and image designed to capture attention, not validate taste or facilitate the exchange of generative assets. Adding to the structural conundrum, the legacy social platforms are designed not to cooperate. They actively silo users, forcing creators to fracture their identity and community across apps. This fragmentation prevents creators from consolidating the value they generate, leaving the AI creator identity without a center of gravity. The architecture for the Curative Economy must therefore be created as a Meta-Layer—a neutral, open territory that sits above the existing infrastructure. We are building Mixtape to be that Meta-Layer. By interconnecting the fragmented world of social media, we bridge the gap between short-lived generation and persistent identity. It is the next natural iteration of the curated profile and the playlist. It is not a portfolio, nor a link aggregator. It is the Identity Layer for the AI generation.

An Update to Our Website!
Hey y'all! We love the community that is growing here. We’re continuously impressed with your work, and with that said we want to help you make the most of it. Here’s what we’ve been thinking lately. When posting online, it can be a bit hard to show people (link to) the rest of our world of art/creations. Oftentimes, as creatives, we are on several platforms, with different versions of our content on spotify vs youtube, etc. We thought we’d make it a bit easier to gather all of that stuff in one place. Basically a page for your art that we hope you can be really happy and proud of, which is also platform agnostic. Our philosophy is that it shouldn’t matter if you’re posting on reddit, youtube, spotify, tiktok, or a hundred other places — you should still be able to center things in one place.  For this reason, we’ve been working on a big overhaul to “Mixtapes.” Back in the day (as many may know) mixtapes were a way to share music with people. But it was also a way to share a part of who we were. Like a window of sorts into our inner landscape. A way for people to see us, who we really are, through our artistic choices. This weekend, you'll see some updates to how we post here on the website. Each time we post, we'll also post to one of our mixtapes. This post will appear in the feed, just like before—but the post now links into your own curated space, where people can explore more of your art. We think of mixtapes as worlds you can build on over time, which has the ability to both play directly, as well as link to all of your content—and the content of other people. Question: Umm, why don’t the socials already do this for their posts? Socials don’t want to link their users out of their own ecosystems, because they depend on people to stay in their feeds and watch ads. That’s why the only way out is “link in bio.” Luckily, we are not “socials” — and we have no reason to lock people into one ecosystem over the other. We believe the web should be free. So with that being said, we’ve used some good old free time to build something free for all of us who post here. A space that lets you gather your art in a way that’s beautiful, lets people experience the art in the order you intended. P.S. We’d love for you to try it and let us know what you think. What would make a mixtape the perfect thing to invite someone into your world? Thanks for being on this journey with us, Mixtape
