For some quick background, I previously had all my music listed under one "umbrella" artist, but it was all over the place in terms of genre, tone, subject, etc. Earlier this summer I made the decision to pull it all down and branch it into two entities. I just wanted to have a more deliberate, focused approach that would have a more consistent appeal to people other than myself. I also started experimenting more with pitching songs to Spotify, doing some other promotion (ads, etc.). I'm still trying to get my footing with that.
So, Jarvis Hart was born as my more serious, singer-songwriter persona, and then I kept The Cobra's Gyrations as my more fun, lighthearted retro/nostalgia pop punk band. I'm currently in the process of reworking my catalog to fit into one of those two personas. And I'm still writing more new songs as inspiration comes, but trying to do so with those existing "voices" in mind.
So, today is a pretty big day for me, as my first Jarvis Hart album is being released on Spotify. A few of these tracks have already been released as singles, which I've posted here. "Passenger Seat" has been the most successful thus far, in terms of streams/engagement, and it was even picked up by Spotify for Discover Weekly algorithmic playlisting.
But there's some new stuff, too, including this track, which is a pretty straightforward homage to my mom. I don't think there is anything more rock 'n roll than that.
